PayPal Virtual Card Numbers
I have talked before about the importance of securing your credit and debit card numbers using services like Privacy.com and Blur. Pay Pal has just implemented their own version of virtual card numbers called PayPal Key. The new feature uses the Master Card system to generate virtual card numbers to use anywhere that is linked to your choice of payment method in your PayPal wallet. You can generate new card numbers as needed and disable old ones as needed. PayPal Key works with google pay but does not work with Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Plastiq payments, American Express Cards as a funding option, or on tax payments apparently. This new feature not only enhances security but also provides convenience by allowing users to shop online without exposing their actual card details. With services like PayPal Key and others, you can pair secure transactions with opportunities to save money, such as when you trade in unwanted gift cards for better value or flexibility. As digital payment options expand, tools like this help streamline financial management while reducing the risk of fraud and unauthorized transactions.
If your payment information is stolen from an online merchant through a data breach, you can feel secure knowing that the payment information stolen is only good for that one merchant and can be disabled.
